Alberta Labour Force statistics, employment, and unemployment rates as released by The Government of Alberta Employment and Immigration website For December of 2009.
Here are the Highlights:
• Alberta’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.7% in December 2009, down
0.7 percentage points from the previous month. This was the third lowest rate in the
country behind Saskatchewan’s 4.8% and Manitoba’s 5.7%. The national average
was 8.5%, unchanged from the previous month.
• Employment increased by 13,900 people in December compared to November 2009,
the second consecutive monthly increase.
• Full-time employment increased by 10,100 people and part-time employment by
3,800 people.
• Employment increased by 4,800 people among women aged 25 and over, by 4,700
people among their male counterparts and by 4,500 among people aged 15 to 24 years
in December compared to November 2009.
• Most of the employment gains in December occurred in the following industries:
Accommodation and Food Services, 11,400 people; Wholesale and Retail Trade,
9,900 people; and Health Care and Social Assistance, 7,300 people.
